After poor Week 1, Broncos QB Bo Nix didn’t want to wait for next game: ‘Can’t we just play again?’

Bo Nix couldn’t sit still after one of the worst games of his NFL career on Sunday. “Literally right after the game, or the day after the game,” Broncos QB3 Sam Ehlinger remembered, “he’s like, ‘Gosh, why do I have to wait six days to play again? Can’t we just play again?'” The man “challenges himself to be perfect,” as receiver Courtland Sutton told reporters this week, and perfectionism can come spilling out of Nix in frazzled bursts of frustration. There was a yell as the quarterback took a seat after one interception against the Titans. There were flung hands after running back Tyler Badie didn’t look for a third-down pass. There was a quite-visible point for tight end Lucas Krull to sit against an early zone look on an incompletion. And yet, after a three-turnover 2025 debut in which Nix looked off-kilter, his locker room hasn’t seen him flinch this week. “The message this week was obviously, ‘We gotta take care of the ball,'” receiver Trent Sherfield told The Denver Post on Thursday. “But you don’t see him going out in practice and not making the same throws that he normally makes. “And every single day, just day in, day out — you can tell he has a process, and he sticks to it no matter what happens. And he believes in that.” Nix still made a number of eye-popping throws Sunday, and thrived early in chaos. When the pocket collapsed from the Titans’ rush, though, the second-year quarterback faltered: 2 of 7 against pressure for 8 yards and two picks. The Colts held Miami to eight points, and feature an interior defensive-line weapon similar to Tennessee’s Jeffery Simmons in All-Pro defensive tackle DeForest Buckner. Where Nix went wrong last weekend when drifting from the pocket, offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi believes, was his footwork. “It’s always a challenge with a quarterback like him, because you don’t want him to just be a statue in there,” Lombardi said. “When he moves, good things happen. And sometimes, he moves and throws with his feet not perfectly set. But I think if he misses, it’s usually just his lower body.” Nix, for his part, has made clear he has to play slightly more calculated given the strength of Denver’s defense. And he’ll have a prime chance to play more on platform Sunday and push Week 1 far in the rearview mirror. “It’s probably the toughest part of our position, in my opinion, is bouncing back from the negative,” Nix said this week. “Because you work really hard, you get one shot at it, and every once in a while when you miss it. “It’s tough because that’s what you just want to think about,” he continued. “You just want to fix it so bad, that that’s what you’re thinking about. The real advantage, the real edge, is when guys can just go to the next play, move on.” Want more Broncos news? Sign up for the Broncos Insider to get all our NFL analysis.
